| Elle always fixing Britta's hair:) |
In May 2011, our family of four moved to Mannheim, Germany for an unforgettable expat assignment. Living abroad came with its challenges—adjusting to a new culture, language, and way of life—but it also gave us memories to last a lifetime and brought us closer together. Looking back, the only thing that could’ve made it even more meaningful would’ve been having Ava with us, but the Lord blessed us with her after we returned home in April 2013. Prost to the journey!

We are back in Germany!
We made it back from the Canary Islands! A few of the highlights of the trip included the girls viewing the ocean for the first time, everyone rolling around in the unique and desert-like Maspalomas sand dunes and watching a pool of dolphins and one whale swim less than 20 feet from our boat! The expressions on Elle and Britta’s faces when seeing and playing in the ocean for the first time were truly priceless. Though, once again our girls proved to be very different… Elle LOVED the ocean (regardless of how cold it was) and Britta strongly disliked it. Britta preferred to stick to playing in the sand and avoiding the ocean, but continually instructed Elle and Matt to fetch her water for her sand castles:). Both girls continue to love flying, though I think it makes people anxious when they hear Elle say, “we’re going down" whenever she hears the airplane's motor change thinking we are preparing to land. It was nice to just get away and relax as a family. And now, our move begins… today, I met with the painters and received our keys. We will begin hanging curtains and getting the safety gates installed this weekend. The movers will officially start packing on Tuesday and we should be sleeping in our new home by Thursday. I am glad we could enjoy some “down time” before starting the move… let the next adventure begin:)!
